New Lifter Tip #3: Cross the Finish Line
*For “New Lifter Tip #1, click here. For Tip #2, click here.
When you decide on a lifting/training program to follow, follow it as directed and stick with it to completion. ”Program Hopping” is a common issue with new and inexperienced trainees (and many intermediate trainees as well). People often start on a program, fail to see immediate results, decide it’s the “program” that isn’t working, then move onto another one - only to repeat this cycle over and over again. Huge mistake! It’s a doom loop sure to lead you nowhere when it comes to progress and good results. Most quality programming is designed to be progressive.
It builds off of itself, week after week, to help you reach your goals only by seeing it through to completion. When I write a program for a client, the goal is to achieve the desired or expected outcome by the program’s completion, not after only a week or two of workouts. So, do yourself, and your progress, a huge favor and complete a program in it’s entirety, following it to a tee, before you give up on it or make claims that it just didn’t work.
